Creating content doesn't need to be a drag. We're so lucky to have a free outlet such as social media to share our gifts with the world! Whether you're a brand, artist, or creative, having a system helps you stay consistent, intentional and joyful about the task. Here’s how I approach planning, the tools I love, and why I always bring it into my work with clients.

Why Content Planning Matters

Content isn’t just about showing up—it’s about showing up with purpose. Planning helps you:

  • Be strategic + consistent, not reactive + sporadic
  • Avoid burnout by batching and scheduling
  • Stay present in your life while your content runs in the background
  • Visualize what your next quarter is going to look like

When you build a relationship with content creation, it stops feeling like a chore and starts becoming a creative ritual!! Yay.

My Favourite Way to Plan Content

At the start of each month, I take time to set the tone for what I want to share. I sit down with a yummy drink, my notes, and my calendar, and map out what’s coming—events, launches, stories, offers.

I sketch it out visually by plugging images and videos into a scheduler, and refining the copy. It keeps me in the flow without the daily pressure to post.

If you are a client of mine, this is what our Strategy Session is for and I recommend approaching these sessions the same way! (Learn more about the Strategy Session here)

Keep a Content Idea List

Ideas show up at the most random times—in the car, at the store, mid-convo. Having a spot to jot them down is key. Use the notes app on your phone or carry a journal so you're never scrambling when it’s time to plan.

If you’re a client of mine, I’ll ask you to pull up your idea list during our planning sessions. It helps us focus on what’s most aligned with your energy and goals, and makes the process way more fun and collaborative.

Favourite Planning Tool: Planoly

Planoly is my go-to. It’s simple, visual, and makes scheduling feel easy. Whether you think in images or love storytelling, it helps you stay on track and keep your feed cohesive.

  • Great for visual planning and organizing your story flow
  • Drag-and-drop grid lets you preview how your feed will look
  • Built-in calendar helps map out posts
  • Auto-posting saves you time and brain space (although, I suggest posting manually so that you can engage before & after with your audience).
  • Easy to collaborate if you're working with a team
  • Analytics give you a sense of what’s landing and what’s not

A Key Part of My Workflow With Clients

When I start working with someone on content, we always, always talk planners. It’s a foundational part of my workflow. Having a system helps us work together smoothly, plan around launches or events , cut down stress and last-minute panic. When clients like their planners, they enjoy the process more—and that energy is felt by their audience!

Final Thoughts

Planning doesn’t box you in—it gives you space to be creative and intentional. With the right tools and rhythm, it feels light, aligned, and way less overwhelming.

Whether you’re DIY-ing or working with someone like me, using a planner is one of the best ways to support your content and your peace of mind.
